Join FDRD for a unique behind-the-scenes tour of the Green Mountain Hydroelectric Dam in Heeney, CO! Built in the 1940s as part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, this impressive structure plays a crucial role in water management and hydroelectric power generation for the region.

On this guided tour, participants will explore the dam’s history, engineering, and environmental significance. Learn how water from the Upper Colorado River is stored and diverted to support both agriculture and communities across the state, all while producing renewable energy.

We will meet at 9:45 at the Dillon Ranger Station before carpooling to the Green Mountain Power Plant for our 10:30am tour.

What to wear/bring:

 Closed-toe shoes with good tread (no sandals)
 Jeans or pants (no shorts or skirts)
 Sunscreen for outside. Most of our facilities are in sunny, high-altitude areas and you
can sunburn very quickly.
